Vedat Topsakal Belgium

Dr. Vedat Topsakal is of Turkish origin but was born in the Netherlands in 1974. After high school, he began his medical studies in Brussels. In Belgium, he became an otorhinolaryngologist under the supervision of Prof. Dr. P.A.R. Clement. He worked on several otogenetic studies with Prof. Dr. Guy Van Camp and Prof. Dr. C.W.R.J. Cremers, and he earned his PhD under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. P. Van de Heyning. From 2009 to 2016, he worked as an otologist at UMC Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he coordinated the cochlear implant team. In 2010, he was awarded a Heinsius Houbolt Fonds fellowship, which allowed him to visit internationally renowned centers in the field of neurotology, such as Gruppo Otologico in Italy, CHU Bordeaux in France, and CHP Pittsburgh in the USA. In 2016, he returned to Belgium and focused on robotic cochlear implant surgery on which he holds a senior reseacher grant in Belgium.
