Foong Yen Chong Malaysia

Dr. Chong Foong Yen, Ph.D., serves as a senior lecturer within the Audiology Programme at the Centre for Rehabilitation & Special Needs Studies (iCaRehab), Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK), National University of Malaysia (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia – UKM). Dr. Chong currently teaches courses in hearing amplification, psychoacoustics, and phonetics at the Audiology Program, FSK, UKM, a place that holds special significance to her as she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Audiology (Hons.) there. Dr. Chong earned her Ph.D. in 2016 and M.Sc. in 2010 in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada. During her doctoral studies, Dr. Chong examined the acoustic and perceptual effects of digital noise reduction systems in hearing aids on speech sounds. Dr. Chong`s passion for hearing-aid amplification and speech acoustics remains a focal point of her research interests. Her current research projects include conducting real-ear-to-coupler measurements among children with Down Syndrome, developing speech perception test materials tailored for Mandarin speakers in Malaysia, and adapting questionnaires as outcome assessment tools for validating hearing amplification devices. Additionally, she is a staunch advocate for the use of real-ear measurements to verify hearing aids and has been invited as a speaker for numerous workshops, webinars, and masterclasses.
