Johan FRIJNS Netherlands

Johan H.M. Frijns is ENT-consultant, director of the Center for Audiology and Hearing Implants and professor of Otology and Auditory Physics at LUMC, and Medical Delta Professor at Delft University of Technology. He earned his MSc (hons, 1983) in Applied Physics at Delft UT, his MD (hons, 1988) and his PhD (hons, 1995) at Leiden University. In 1999 he founded the Leiden cochlear and auditory brainstem implant program, building on a growing body of translational research. Frijns is teacher in a number of post-academic courses, organized several international conferences and serves on the editorial board of several scientific journals. His research interests include (neuro-)otology and audiology, especially cochlear implants (computational modelling, speech coding, incl. artificial intelligence, imaging, electrode design, socio-emotional development of deaf and hard of hearing children). He has published over 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers, (H-index 40 (WoS), Google Scholar index 54) and supervised over 30 PhD theses.
