Prof Chris Raine MBE., MB.BS., ChM., FRCS (Otol). FEBEORL-HNS (Hon)
Prof Chris Raine is a consultant based at Bradford Royal Infirmary, where he developed a subspecialised otological practice. This led to the establishment of the supra-regional Yorkshire Auditory Implant Centre (YAIS). His passion for education has enabled him to serve as faculty on numerous otological courses worldwide.
Prof Raine was a founding member of several prestigious organisations, including the British Society of Otology (BSO), the British Cochlear Implant Group (BCIG), and the British Association of Paediatric Otolaryngology (BAPO). He is a former board member of the European Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ESPO) and a past president of the Section of Otology at the Royal Society of Medicine. Additionally, he has had the honour of serving as Treasurer to ENT UK.
In 2015, Prof Raine was awarded the title of Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to charity and the National Health Service.
Prof Raine has held various government advisory roles, including advising on the development of specialised ear services, providing clinical expertise to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on cochlear implants, and working with the Department of Work and Pensions. He also served on the Hearing Aid Council.
His commitment to humanitarian efforts spans nearly 40 years, with particular focus on supporting colleagues in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially Malawi, over the last decade. In 2019, he joined the World Health Organization.
